 Coalition members
Nine Croatian non-governmental organisations from different parts of Croatia, that have proven their ability to effectively promote and protect human rights, provide free legal assistance and use their expertise and tehnical resources have exist in Coalition for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (Legal Service Coalition – LSC).

The Coalition monitors and oversees the consistent implementation of legal norms guaranteed by the constitution and their concordance with internationally accepted standards, and also educates, informs and makes the public more sensitive to the importance of respecting human rights.

Međunarodna konferencija o primjeni Zakona o besplatnoj pravnoj pomoći

Predstavništvo UNHCR-a u Hrvatskoj, Ministarstvo pravosuđa Republike Hrvatske, Centar za ljudska prava i Koalicija za promociju i zaštitu ljudskih prava organizirali u Hotelu International u Zagrebu, 26. srpnja 2010., međunarodnu konferenciju pod nazivom «Pristup pravosuđu: Godinu dana iskustva u primjeni zakona o besplatnoj pravnoj pomoći».

 

Sudionici konferencije bili su organizacije civilnog društva iz Hrvatske, predstavnici Ministarstava RH ( Ministarstvo unutarnjih poslova, Ministarstvo pravosuđa), Ureda pravobranitelja/ca, ureda Vlade RH, Veleposlanstva u RH, Međunarodne organizacije, Uredi državne uprave u RH, UNHCR, Centar za ljudska prava, sudionici izvan Hrvatske i mnogi drugi.

"Sustainable return" roundtable on World Refugee Day in Pula

"Homo" Pula, member of Coalition for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, organized on the occasion of Refugee Day, a round table on "Sustainable Return", which was held in the Italian House of Culture "Circolo" Cararrina 1 in Pula, on 23rd of June, 2010. at 6pm.

In the roundtable discussion together with citizens, participated Mrs. Maja Andric Lužaić, advisor of the Vice-presidents of the Croatian Government responsible for the the return and integration of refugees, Mr. Slobodan Uzelac, Mr. Furio Radin, president of the Committee for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities, Mr. Zoran Milivojevic, Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Rijeka Consulate, Mr. Robi Belušić, Head of Department for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Mrs. Slavica Popadić, a lawyer from Rovinj, Mrs. Sura Dumanić from Rijeka's Women Action and representatives of the organizer.

Roundtable on the World Refugee Day held in Pakrac

koalicija-znak-boja.jpgOn 17 June 2010. at 11 am, at the Congress Hall Hotel Pakrac Square Dr. John Sreter, Pakrac, there was a thematic round table to mark the World Refugee Day on July 20., organized by the Coalition for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Osijek.

Warm welcome to all participants was expressed by the representatives of the host and organizer, Ms.. Mirica Miljanić the Serbian Democratic Forum, the office in Pakrac and mrs. Ljiljana Bozic-Krstanović, chairwoman of the Assembly of the Coalition.

The roundtable discussion included representatives of NGOs, local authorities and representatives of UNHCR and Croatia, which actively supports the process of return and reintegration.

Coalition in Economic and Social Council of United Nations

UNCoalition received consultant status with UN ECOSCO

In July 2007 Coalition for promotion and protection of human rights was accepted into Economic and Social Council of United Nations (ECOSOC). ECOSOC is coordinating body of UN which is working in economical, social, and healthcare domain, and also in the areas of culture and education. It represents a factor of associating and networking United Nation’s and maintains advisory relations with over 1500 non-governmental organizations around the World. With special consultative status Coalition has given a right to attend the ECOSOC sessions and right to give suggestions and offer solutions for specific issues. Coalition has obligation to deliver to ECOSOC its first report for four year period in 2011.

ZAGREB, January 21st 2010 – Round table “Croatia and EU: closer to the goal with less and less optimism” was held in the conference hall of the European delegation in Republic of Croatia, which attended the representative of the Coalition MR Stjepan Čuraj. Gallup Balkan monitor in cooperation with European fund for Balkans presented the survey second year in a row with respondents from all counties in Croatia. After the introduction from Ms. Nevena Crljenko, executive director of the Academy for political development Council of Europe and Ms. Hedvig Morai Horvat, executive director of European fund for Balkans and the presentation of the survey by Robert Manchin, director of Gallup Europe round table begun the session with Vesna Pusić, Chairwomen of the National committee for negotiations with European union, Paul Vandoren, chief of Delegation of European commission in republic of Croatia, Josip Kregar, professor on University of Law in Zagreb and Srđan Dvornik, publicist.

International anti-corruption day

ZAGREB, 09th December 2009 - Representative of the Coalition form promotion and protection of Human rights Mr. Stjepan Curaj attended the Transparency International Croatia traditional marking of the International anti-corruption day in which was held in the ceremonial hall of the Croatian journalists association. President of the republic of Croatia Mr. Stjepan Mesic opened the Conference, Minister of the Justice department Mr. Ivan Simunovic, President of the National committee for fight against corruption Mr. Zeljko Jovanovic adressed the conference, along with President of the Transparency International Mr. Zorislav Antun Petrovic who presented the survey "What do people of Croatia think about the presidential campaign". Amongst guests were Chief state attorney Mr. Mladen Bajic, Principle of the USKOK (office for fight against corruption and organized crime) Mr. Cvitan, and ambassadors of foreign states.

 
Media statement on International refugee day

Refugees, dislocated persons and returnees are encountering with various difficulties  

On International Refugee day June 20th members of the Coalition for promotion and protection of Human rights, alliance of nine none-governmental organizations who are implementing activities on promotion and protection of human rights, are addressing the media to remind Croatian public on the difficult destiny refugees all around the world, as well as on the presence of refugees on the southeast region of Europe, including Republic of Croatia and their specific problems and uncertain faith. The Government of Republic of Croatia had made some effort into final solution of refugee/dislocated persons issues, but in spite of that various problems with which refugees, dislocated persons and returnees are faced with still remains unresolved and opened.

Removing of obstacles to sustainable return and bringing to an end a process of return is going along quite slow and in a large measure are determined by the amending state budget by which are funds significant reduced for rebuilding and housing of the returnees, which is going to slow down already slow process of return, problems in work of governing authorities and incomplete legal frameworks. Discrepancy of laws relevant for returnees, especially ones without Croatian citizenship, and un-standardized practice are making individual rights for returnees more difficult, and in that way keeping the sustainable return some what questionable.

Global Development Education in the new EU member States

Konferencija u BudimpeštiCoalition representative on conference in Budapest

Budapest, 23-24th March 2009 – Representative of Coalition for promotion and protection of human rights Mr. Stjepan Curaj participated in conference “Launching Event for promoting Global Development Education in the new EU member States” which was organized in partnership with DEEEP and the Hungarian Association for Development and Humanitarian Aid (HAND) and is supported by the European Commission and the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. On conference there was talk about global development which, as it was said, understands and includes social development, education, migration of population to environment. Amongst speakers were numerous representatives of non-governmental organizations and countries with ministers of foreign affairs along from European Union and Council of Europe. Coalition was invited to represent Croatian association of NGO’s as a future membership state, and thus the future member of developing program in which besides the government authorities are NGO’s included.

 
Working group on enlargement, pre-accession and neighborhood

Sastanak u BruxellesuMember of the Coalition on EPAN working group meeting in Bruxelles

Bruxelles, 17-18th March 2009 Mr. Stjepan Curaj participated on EPAN working group meeting as a representative of the Coalition of promotion and protection of human rights. Some of issues discussed on the meeting were projects of the national platforms which are members of the CONCORD in new EU member states. There were particular interest and discussion on human rights issues in Gaza were amongst other speakers was the vice-president of the European Parliament MRS. Luisa Morgantini as a special expert in Middle East issues. It was also agreed on next case study country, individual responsibilities for the following period and the place of the next meeting of the EPAN group which is going to be Malta.

 
Europe for Citizens

Zagreb 28th January 2009 EU Info center, Croatian government’s Human rights office organized an education seminar on European commissions program “Europe for citizens”. Mr. Stjepan Čuraj was present on behalf of the Coalition. Along with welcoming speeches from representatives of Croatian government and MR. Vincent Degert, head of delegation of European Commission for Croatia, more about the program was introduced by Mireia Fabrega Iglesias from Agency for audiovisual, cultural and education policy, the agency which is operatively in charge of the Program. A workshop on Program was held by Jaša Jarec and Marina Buza-Vidas from Croatian government’s Human rights office and there were also some examples from practice.

 

 
Public debate

Sudionici tribine„Cheering on stadiums as a reflection of collective awareness of society“

In hotel Ariston, Osijek on December 17th 2008 Coalition for promotion and protection of human rights organized a public debate „Cheering on stadiums as a reflection of collective awareness of society“ within the project “Multiculturalism as a part of modern European society” which Coalition is implementing with financial aid form Office for human rights Republic of Croatia.

Speakers on the debate were representatives from supporter group Kohorta, Osijek, representatives of the Police department of osječko-baranjska region, Mr. Branislav Tekić, Centre for peace Vukovar, Mr. Stjepan Čuraj, Coalition for promotion and protection of human rights and prof. Jaroslav Pecnik.
Inserts form the motion picture “The last YU representation” were played as a introduction to the debate, and during the debate articles form the newspapers in 2007 and 2008 on supporting issues and incidents during that period were also displayed. There were over 20th people present which of most took part of the discussion with questions and suggestions.
